POST PRODUCTION This area of post production is separate from the post production found in the wedding, Mitzvahs, and corporate/private packages. They come with their own editing choices. This area is for people looking specifically to have post production work on previously recorded material. My post production services are $35 an hour (except where noted), no matter what the project. Post production involves four things:
1. Importing, Digitizing Footage The process of digitizing VHS tapes to a digital format happens in real time. This means that if your footage is 1 hour long, it will take 1 hour to transfer the tape (plus the few minutes it takes for me to set everything up). You do not lose any video quality when you transfer VHS to a digital format - you are duplicating the VHS tape identically, with zero video degredation. The process of converting DVDs to a digital format ready for editing happens a bit faster. Unfortunatly I do not yet have the ability to transfer film reels to a digital format, though I can transfer still photographs. In order to get your film reel into a digital format you have to look for a company that uses a Telecine; a machine that takes your film and prints it onto any digital format or tape. In addition to transfering VHS tapes and DVDs, I can also transfer VHS-C tapes, cassettes, CD's and vinyl records to a format ready for editing. I can even take footage you already have on DVD and bring that in to the computer for editing into a new video. As with VHS, these formats are imported in real time. Every 2 hours of footage that you would like transferred, no matter which format, is $10.
2. Editing Footage If you have footage you've previously shot, I can do any kind of editing you'd like. I can trim shots, add basic effects like fades, dissolves, letterboxing, and titles, and I can add music. (For more advanced effects, see 'Motion Graphics' below.) There are so many different combinations I can do that it would be best to contact me and we can talk specifically about your individual project; what footage you have and what you would like done with it.
3. Creating Motion Graphics There is so much possible in motion graphics programs; the ability to create motion menus, lower thirds (words and graphics you see near the bottom of the screen - for example in news casts), animated titles, and wipes, the list goes on and on. If you're looking for a real punch in your video project, concider using some higher end motion graphics.
4. DVD Authoring Your DVD can act just like the Hollywood DVD you buy at the store if you want to. I have the ability to create multiple video and audio tracks (which you can switch to while viewing). You can have multiple subtitle tracks as well. I have a lot of premade DVD menus for you to chose from, or we can start from scratch. You may also begin with an existing DVD menu and personalize it all you like. Your button highlights, your background, your music, your fonts - everything! Because there are so many different routes to take in post-production, I charge by the hour no matter what the project is. This keeps an easy to understand pricing set-up, no matter what the project.
